Privacy policy

The short version: your golf data is yours. It lives in your private iCloud, not on a server we control. We don't have an account system, we don't run analytics that collect your personal data, and we don't sell anything about you.

Last updated: 1 June 2026

In plain terms: Optivo stores everything you create — rounds, shots, notes, courses — in your own private iCloud using Apple's CloudKit. We can't see it, and there's no separate Optivo login.

Who this applies to

This policy covers the Optivo iOS app and this website (optivo.golf). Optivo is made by an independent developer. If anything here is unclear, email karat-mercy.0t@icloud.com and we'll explain.

What data Optivo handles

Optivo works with the golf data you choose to enter, which may include:

  • Rounds and scores, hole details, and shot-by-shot data (lie, distance, penalties) in Full mode.
  • Derived statistics such as Strokes Gained and your World Handicap System index.
  • Notes and labels you create.
  • Courses you select or create, including the location of a custom pin-drop course.

Where your data is stored

Your data is stored on your device and synced to your own private iCloud database through Apple's CloudKit service. This means:

  • The data is held in your personal iCloud account, under your control and Apple's account security.
  • It syncs automatically and privately between your own devices signed into the same iCloud account.
  • Optivo does not operate a separate server that stores copies of your rounds, scores or notes.

Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's own privacy policy and iCloud terms.

No Optivo account, no tracking server

There is no Optivo username or password to create. We do not run an analytics backend that collects your personal usage data or your scores, and we do not build advertising profiles. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.

Location

Optivo uses your location for one purpose: discovering nearby golf courses through Apple Maps, and letting you drop a pin to create a custom course. Location is used on your device for that feature; any course location you save becomes part of your round data in your private iCloud. You can decline location access and still use Optivo by adding courses manually — though nearby discovery won't work without it. You can change the permission any time in iOS Settings.

Apple Maps / MapKit

Course search and map features are provided by Apple's MapKit. When you search for or view courses, the relevant requests are handled by Apple's mapping services, subject to Apple's terms and privacy practices.

Sharing features

When you export a scorecard or a coach report, Optivo prepares it as text and hands it to the iOS share sheet. What happens next is up to you — whichever app you send it to (Messages, WhatsApp, email, etc.) handles it under that app's own policies. Optivo does not upload your shared content to any server of ours.

Children's privacy

Optivo is a general-audience golf app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Data retention and deletion

Because your data lives in your iCloud, you control its lifetime. Deleting items in the app removes them from your iCloud database; deleting the app and clearing its iCloud data through iOS Settings removes the synced data from your account. We don't keep a separate copy to delete on our end.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and post the revised version here. Material changes will be reflected in the app or its App Store listing where appropriate.
